Presidential search progressing

The search for a successor to President Shapiro is progressing, with the committee aiming to complete its work this spring.

Thomas Wright, secretary of the University and of the search committee, reported at the Jan. 17 Council of the Princeton University Community meeting that "the process is moving ahead in a confidential way."

Shortly after the committee was formed last fall, Chair Robert Rawson Jr. said that the names of potential candidates will not be made public. "We will not be discussing any names or candidates until we actually have a person we intend to elect the next president," he said.

Wright noted that the committee has heard from some 300 students, 200 alumni and 50 leaders in higher education outside the University. Fourteen meetings have been conducted with small groups of faculty members.

Persons may contact the search committee by mail at 217 Nassau Hall; by fax at 258-0058; by e-mail at pusec@princeton.edu; or by completing the Web suggestion form found on the Presidential Search Committee home page at web.princeton.edu/sites/vp&sec/presidentialsearch/. All written comments will be considered confidential, and will only be available to the search committee.
