Board approves faculty appointmentsPrinceton NJ -- The Board of Trustees approved a number of faculty appointments at its Jan. 27 meeting. New appointmentIn chemical engineering, David Wood was named an
assistant professor for a three-and-one-half-year term
beginning Feb. 1, 2001. His field of specialization is
biochemical engineering. He has a 1990 B.S. degree from the
California Institute of Technology and 1997 M.S. and 2000
Ph.D. degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has
been at Princeton since last year as a visiting research
collaborator. PromotionsTwo faculty members have been promoted to assistant professor for a term of three and one-half years beginning Feb. 1, 2001: In architecture, Laura Kurgan's field of specialization is architectural design. She has a 1984 B.A. degree from the University of California-Berkeley and a 1988 M.Arch. degree from Columbia University. A lecturer at Princeton since 1998, she also has held positions at Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute, the University of Pennsylvania and Yale University. In history, Peter Silver studies colonial American
history. He has a 1993 B.A. degree from Harvard University
and 1995 M.A. and 2000 Ph.D. degrees from Yale University.
He has been at Princeton for the past year as an
instructor. ReappointmentsThe following assistant professors have been reappointed for three years beginning July 1, 2001: In Germanic languages and literatures, Therese Augst and Sarah Roff; in physics, Andrew Bazarko, Ori Ganor, David Nice and Thomas Shutt; in mathematics, Xiuxiong Chen and Peter Ozsváth; In art and archaeology, Esther da Costa Meyer; in English, Craig Dworkin; in the Woodrow Wilson School and politics, Kent Eaton and Jeffrey Lewis; in computer science, Thomas Funkhouser; in economics, Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, Han Hong and Marciano Siniscalchi; in music, Wendy Heller and Barbara White; In the Woodrow Wilson School and economics, Chang-Tai Hsieh and Jeffrey Kling; in history, Emmanuel Kreike; in Near Eastern studies, Barbara Mann and Negin Nabavi; in Romance languages and literatures, Volker Schröder; in molecular biology, Yigong Shi; and in politics, Karen Stenner. Assistant professor of history Thomas Dandelet to accept a position at the University of California-Berkeley, effective Feb. 1, 2001.
