The campus as movie set
Scenes for the new Ron Howard movie, "A Beautiful Mind,"
are expected to be shot at Princeton this spring. The
picturesque campus has been a favorite of film crews and
still photographers over the years, according to information
provided by the Center for Visitors and Conference
Services.
In the last 10 years, crews have shot on campus
for several major motion pictures, including: "Scent of a
Woman" (1992), starring Al Pacino and Chris O'Donnell; "I.Q"
(1994), starring Meg Ryan and Walter Matthau; and "One True
Thing" (1998) starring Meryl Streep, Renee Zellweger and
William Hurt.
Film crews shot documentary footage here on the
late U.S. and Princeton president Woodrow Wilson in November
2000 and on author F. Scott Fitzgerald in January 2001.
Several companies have shot television commercials
here, including ads for Folger's Coffee, UPS, U.S. overnight
mail, Champion and ESPN.
Many still photos for ads and for magazines also
have been taken on campus, including shots for Abercrombie
& Fitch, Maxim, Mercedes-Benz, Elle, Tommy Hilfiger,
Macy's, Bloomberg and Nike.
In February 1998, Oprah Winfrey came to Princeton;
crews shot her book club meeting on "Paradise" with author
and faculty member Toni Morrison.
