Name: Karen Malec.

Position: Manager of facilities and events in the athletics department. Handling the facilities and events needs for 38 varsity teams, from securing officials to hiring event staff. Coordinating different groups within athletics -- from communications to the ticket office to the grounds crew -- to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Quote: "Because of the many different kinds of functions we hold in athletic facilities, I get to work with many different departments, and I like that. Although we're somewhat isolated physically on the edge of campus, I get to see a lot of people."

Other interests: Spending time with her 8-year-old son, camping and swimming.
