Community commitments
Since June 2000, the University has made more than
$1.66 million in commitments to several community endeavors,
including $500,000 to the Princeton Regional Schools
building project; $500,000 to the construction of the new
Princeton Public Library; and $300,000 to the restoration of
Monument Drive Park in front of Borough Hall.
During this same time frame, the University made a
significant dollar commitment to renovate the Garden Theatre
-- a University-owned, but public movie theater in Princeton
that is considered by residents and elected officials as
important to the economic vitality of downtown.
Over the past several years, additional special
gifts have included nearly $1 million to the Medical Center
at Princeton; $100,000 to the Arts Council of Princeton;
$100,000 to open space preservation; $265,000 to the fire
and first aid squads (this includes $155,000 given this past
year to purchase a new Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad
vehicle); $50,000 to the Princeton YWCA; $30,000 to the
"Curtain Calls" New Year's Eve celebration; and $1.2 million
in cash and land for affordable housing.
