Community commitments

• Since June 2000, the University has made more than $1.66 million in commitments to several community endeavors, including $500,000 to the Princeton Regional Schools building project; $500,000 to the construction of the new Princeton Public Library; and $300,000 to the restoration of Monument Drive Park in front of Borough Hall.

• During this same time frame, the University made a significant dollar commitment to renovate the Garden Theatre -- a University-owned, but public movie theater in Princeton that is considered by residents and elected officials as important to the economic vitality of downtown.

• Over the past several years, additional special gifts have included nearly $1 million to the Medical Center at Princeton; $100,000 to the Arts Council of Princeton; $100,000 to open space preservation; $265,000 to the fire and first aid squads (this includes $155,000 given this past year to purchase a new Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad vehicle); $50,000 to the Princeton YWCA; $30,000 to the "Curtain Calls" New Year's Eve celebration; and $1.2 million in cash and land for affordable housing.
