Miller named to head Alumni Council; Taylor to remain on staff part-time
Princeton NJ -- Kathy Taylor, director of the Alumni Council for the last two years, has decided to step aside to spend more time with her family. Margaret Miller, deputy director of the council, will become its director. The changes are effective Jan. 1, 2002.
"For some time now, I have been wrestling with the classic question of how best to balance my Princeton life with my family life," Taylor wrote in an e-mail to the Alumni Council's executive committee. "The University has been both understanding and accommodating as I've worked through this issue. Yet the unavoidable conflicts still exist at a rate that, for me, is just too frequent. Therefore, as much as I have loved serving in this position on so many levels, after considerable thought I have concluded that this moment in my family's life is simply not the right time for me to be leading the Alumni Council as its director."
Taylor, a 1974 Princeton graduate, joined the staff in October 1999. She previously was an English teacher at the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and a vice president at Girard Bank/Mellon Bank in Philadelphia.
Miller had been the fund-raising campaign director and company manager for Princeton's Triangle Club since 1995. She also had served the University as an annual giving campaign volunteer and a class agent.
"I am delighted that both Margaret and Kathy have agreed to this plan, which will allow the council and the University to continue to benefit from both of their talents," said Robert Durkee, vice president for public affairs.
During the next month, Miller and Taylor will be defining the precise projects that Taylor will undertake.
"Having had an opportunity to work closely with Margaret, I am confident that she will provide steady leadership for the office and will sustain and build on the momentum we have established these past two years," Taylor said. "I am also very pleased that I will be able to provide support to Margaret and to direct a number of ongoing projects, including initiatives in communications and alumni education."
"Kathy and I have had a wonderful working relationship,"
Miller said. "I am eagerly looking forward to continuing
that relationship under the new scenario. In the days and
months ahead, I plan to carry on with the excellent set of
programs and initiatives that she has put into place."
