United Way Campaign Results

Princeton NJ -- United Way officials and University volunteers gathered in the Frist Campus Center Feb. 14 to celebrate the record $189,854 raised for the United Way in this year's campus drive. Campaign chair Robert Durkee, vice president for public affairs, praised the volunteers for their efforts. "Again this year, the Princeton University United Way campaign resulted in an extraordinary showing of good will and generosity by the University community on the main campus and at the Plasma Physics Laboratory," he said. "This year's contribution represents the most Princeton has ever raised for the United Way campaign and is especially significant given the uncertain economic climate."

The campaign raised more than $167,000 in contributions from faculty, staff and retirees -- $131,570 from the main campus, $26,035 from the PPPL and $9,570 from retirees. Of that amount, $2,580 was designated for the United Way's Sept. 11 Fund, which aids the victims and families of the recent terrorist attacks. The University matched gifts with 15 cents on the dollar for every payroll deduction contribution and 10 cents on the dollar for all other gifts, for a total University contribution of $22,679. Donations will be distributed among the funded programs of the Greater Mercer County United Way and other health and human services agencies that were designated by individual employees.
