National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Princeton NJ -- Young fans had an opportunity to meet players and coaches from many of the Princeton women's teams and to try out a sport during an interactive fair that was part of the 16th annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day Feb. 9 in Jadwin Gymnasium. Here, freshman Elizabeth Pillion, a member of the varsity lacrosse team, helps a youngster swing a stick. The event, sponsored by the Department of Athletics, also included a speech by Saskia Webber, a Princeton High School and Rutgers University graduate and a member of the U.S. World Cup champion women's soccer team, followed by the Princeton vs. Yale women's basketball game. The celebration drew an estimated 3,000 fans.

Black History Month

Princeton NJ -- Children from the local community learned about Haitian history through traditional music, drumming and dance by La Troupe Makandal, a well-known group from New York City, during the annual Black History Month Extravaganza sponsored by Community House Feb. 15. The event at the Third World Center also featured arts and crafts projects, which Princeton students helped supervise.
