Communiversity celebration is April 27Princeton NJ -- Town and borough residents, students, merchants, nonprofit organizations, musicians, performing and visual artists, and food vendors will turn Nassau Street and the campus into a colorful fairground during the annual Communiversity celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27. The event, sponsored by students at the University and the Arts Council of Princeton, is intended to promote cultural awareness on both sides of Nassau Street, which will be closed to vehicle traffic. Traditional favorites like performances on four stages, children's activities on Alexander Beach and student booths in front of Nassau Hall will join new additions like the Battle of the Bands. The University's International Center will continue its tradition of participation with an elaborate flag procession and the International Service Award ceremony. The center also will contribute international foods and performances, including the popular Chinese Dragon Dance. Children's activities on Alexander Beach will include a moon-bounce, face-painting and balloon animals. The Middle Earth Theater will return with its popular interactive theater and other activities sponsored by the Cotsen Children's Library. For adults, the Sandra Starr Foundation and the University's Office of Community and State Affairs are sponsoring a conference on "Community Health and a Healthy Environment: Prescriptions for Princeton and the Region." It will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Garden Theater. Dr. Steven Schroeder, president and chief executive officer of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, will deliver the keynote address, which will be followed by a panel discussion by community activists. Princeton Borough and Township mayors will speak at Communiversity's opening ceremony at noon, along with President Tilghman and special guest, New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey.
