Schedule changed for start of classes

The University's 2002 fall term will begin with a one-time calendar change that will affect the start of classes in September, according to the Office of the Registrar. Classes begin on Thursday, Sept. 12.
    Because Yom Kippur takes place on the first Monday of fall classes, Sept. 16, the faculty has voted to switch the first Friday and first Monday classes for all students.
    Classes that would regularly meet on Monday, Sept. 16, will instead meet on Friday, Sept. 13. Classes that would normally meet on Friday, Sept. 13, will meet on Monday, Sept. 16. The normal schedule resumes Tuesday, Sept. 17.
    Because some courses were scheduled to begin that Monday, the switch was made to enable students observing the holiday to avoid missing the first class of the term. Since nearly all Friday classes meet on Mondays too, students in Friday classes also should be able to attend their first class.
