... a Princeton student's typical routine ...

"Princeton University: The First 250 Years" by Don Oberdorfer includes an excerpt from the journal of Philip Vickers Fithian, a member of the class of 1772, that demonstrates a Princeton student's typical routine in the days prior to the Revolutionary War:

5 to 5:30 a.m. Dressing period. "The Bell rings at five, after which there is an Intermission of half an hour, that everyone may have time to dress, at the end of which it rings again, and Prayers begin; And lest any should plead that he did not hear the Bell, the Servant who rings goes to every Door and beats till he wakens the Boys."

5:30 a.m. Morning Prayers. "After Morning Prayers, we can, now in the winter, study an hour by candle Light every Morning."

8 a.m. Breakfast. "From eight to nine is time of our own, to play, or exercise."

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Recitation.

1 p.m. Dinner. "We dine all in the same Room, at three tables. After dinner till three we have Liberty to go out at Pleasure."

3 to 5 p.m. Study.

5 p.m. Evening Prayers.

7 p.m. Supper.

9 p.m. "At nine the Bell rings for Study; And a Tutor goes through College, to see that every Student is in his own Room; if he finds that any are absent, or more in any Room than belongs there, he notes them down, and the day following calls them to an Account. After nine any may go to bed, but to go before is reproachful."
