Carl A. Fields Center for Equality and Cultural
Understanding dedicated
Princeton NJ -- The new Carl A. Fields Center for
Equality and Cultural Understanding was dedicated in a
ceremony Sept. 20. The name of the former Third World Center
was changed this summer to more accurately reflect its
mission. The new name honors Fields, a former Princeton dean
who was the first African-American to hold such a
high-ranking post at an Ivy League school.
Present at the dedication were, from left, Fields' widow,
Hedda, and his brother, Earl, who chatted with members of
the University and local communities. A plaque outside the
building at 86 Olden St. bears the new name.
