P E O P L E Spotlight
Name: George Rose. Position: Senior technical staff member in the Department of Geosciences. Working as a machinist on projects for faculty members in the department and elsewhere on campus. Talking with people about their projects and what needs to be done, and then designing and machining devices such as saws, pendulums and parts for laser optical work. Also doing some referral work for researchers outside the University. As a sideline to his job -- making special clocks with University photos for those retiring from the department. Quote: "My work is constantly evolving with new labs, new professors and new projects. Communication skills are very important. Some universities go outside for this kind of work, but I don't think they provide the kind of individual attention we do here. Because we're close by the department (in the basement of Guyot), we can pop into the lab and try something out to see if it works." Other interests: Spending time with his wife of 24 years and their two sons, traveling, fly fishing and playing racquetball. In Communications
