Name: Jean Washington.

Position: Program manager in the Program in African-American Studies. Managing the day-to-day operation of the program, working with faculty to schedule courses and organize precepts, tracking and reporting finances, interfacing with under-graduate and graduate students and coordinating meetings such as the program's advisory council and the interdepartmental committee.

Quote: "I'm passionate about African-American studies -- I believe that it should be a permanent academic discipline. There's too much that's not been researched, not just in history but in many fields. There are many stories yet to be told."

Other interests: Looking forward to spending time with her new grand-daughter. Taking classes such as "Philosophic, Religious and Literary Dimensions of DuBois, Baldwin and Morrison" with Professor Cornel West.
 

LeMenager moves to campus life

In this capacity, LeMenager will work directly with Dickerson and the offices for which she is responsible (athletics, Pace Center for Community Service, Frist Campus Center, health services, religious life and Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students) on strategic and financial planning as well as on project management and planning related to implementation of the Wythes Committee recommendations, which include the addition of 500 undergraduates. He also is responsible for continuing development of a proposal for a new Health and Wellness Center; improving and coordinating communications in the area of campus life; and serving as a senior adviser to Dickerson on other matters. In addition, LeMenager will serve as a member of Senior Vice President Charles Kalmbach's Administrative Council.

"I am simply delighted with this appointment, as are all my colleagues in campus life," Dickerson said. "We all will benefit greatly from Steve's thorough knowledge of Princeton and from his excellent planning and communications skills, especially as we prepare for the addition of 500 students to the undergraduate student body." In April 2000, University trustees approved a recommendation of the Wythes Committee to increase the student body by 11 percent, from 4,600 to 5,100 -- the first significant increase in undergraduate enrollment since the advent of co-education in 1969. The increase is expected to be implemented starting in the fall of 2006.

A 1980 graduate of Bowdoin College with a master's in education from Harvard University, LeMenager has spent most of his 20 years at Princeton in the admission office, including service as acting dean of admission, associate dean of admission and director of admission. He has been responsible for a broad range of management and planning activities relating to the recruitment and selection of Princeton undergraduates.

LeMenager has sat on a variety of University committees, including the Faculty Committee on Undergraduate Admission and Financial Aid, the Faculty Committee on Examinations and Standing and the Disabilities Services Network. Most recently, he has served as senior director of special projects in the University's Office of Communications.
