Clothing drive, other community service activities planned
Members of the University community will have the opportunity to share some holiday spirit through a clothing drive and several other community service initiatives being coordinated through the Office of Community and State Affairs.
The clothing drive will benefit the Hire Attire Boutique, an organization that collects “gently used’’ business clothes for men and women. University community members are being asked to clean out their closets in the coming weeks in preparation for the Jan. 18-25 drive.
Hire Attire is part of the New Brunswick-based Adult Learning Center. The clothing goes to people who are entering or re-entering the workforce after completing a New Jersey job training program.
Other activities include a holiday gift outreach to “adopted’’ families and a new toy drive. The Office of Community and State Affairs also is compiling a list of outreach projects undertaken by various departments on campus. Information on these and other year-round volunteer opportunities was e-mailed Nov. 21 to University faculty, staff and graduate students. For more information, visit web.princeton.edu/sites/pucsa.
Those interested in donating clothing will be able to drop off items in the OIT Training Room at the Armory (Washington Road side) between 8 and 9 a.m. and 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. weekdays from Jan. 18 through Jan. 25.
Hire Attire is part of the New Brunswick-based Adult Learning Center. The clothing goes to people who are entering or re-entering the workforce after completing a New Jersey job training program. The organization needs all types of business and business-casual clothing in good condition including suits, dress slacks, khakis, dress shirts, collared casual shirts, blazers, skirts, sweaters, dresses, jackets, coats, ties, belts and other accessories. Donations are tax deductible.
The drive is being coordinated by the offices of the associate provost for institutional equity and community and state affairs. For more information or to volunteer to assist with the clothing drive, contact Erin Metro in community and state affairs at email@example.com or 258-5144.
