Robert F. Goheen, 1919–2008
Goheen first came to Princeton as a 17-year-old freshman in 1936. Goheen (circled) was an accomplished soccer player as a Princeton student.
Goheen (center) is joined at his installation as president in 1957 by (from left) University trustees Douglas Horton, Harold Helm and Henry Pitney Van Dusen and Dean of the Chapel Ernest Gordon. Pictured at right: Goheen chats with Harold W. Dodds, his predecessor as president.
Goheen speaks on the steps of Nassau Hall during a May 1968 protest that drew students, faculty and staff as well as the national media. As Princeton’s president, Goheen was lauded for his wise leadership in guiding the University through a period of transformative growth and change. (portrait: Ulli Steltzer)
