Christopher L. Eisgruber was named the 20th president of Princeton University on April 21, 2013.
The Princeton University Board of Trustees appointed a 17-member committee to conduct the search for a successor to President Shirley M. Tilghman, who announced her intention to step down from her position as Princeton's 19th president at the end of the 2012-13 academic year.
The committee included nine trustees, including the chair of the board, Kathryn A. Hall '80, who chaired the committee; four members of the faculty; two undergraduates; one graduate student; and one member of the University staff. The president is appointed by the Board of Trustees, and the committee made its recommendation to the full board at a special meeting.
