Mr. Michael J. Newton
Captain Michael J. Newton graduated from Florida Institute of Technology in 1996 and commissioned into the Air Defense Artillery branch of the U.S. Army. He served as a Platoon Leader, Assistant S-3, and Battery Executive Officer in 3-265 ADA BN (Avenger) Florida Army National Guard.
As a Captain, he commanded the 520th Transportation Detachment (Movement Control), in Orlando, Florida. While assigned there, he deployed to Tallil, Iraq and also served as an Operations Officer for the 49th Transportation Battalion in LSA Anaconda, Balad, Iraq in 2004. Later he served as the S-3 Current Operations Officer in the 332nd Transportation Battalion in Tampa, Florida. While assigned there he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007.
He was later selected to serve on Active Duty through the Call to Active Duty Program in January 2008. Upon entering active duty, he attended the Air Defense Artillery Captain’s Career Course at Fort Bliss, TX. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Leadership Studies from the University of Texas-El Paso in 2008. He then served as a battle Captain and Battalion S-2 Officer for 6-52 ADA BN, Fort Sill, OK / Suwon AB, Korea until June, 2010.
In June 2010, he assumed command of Headquarters Battery, 35th ADA Brigade, Osan AB, Korea. He remained in command for one year. In June of 2011, he served as a Battle Captain for 35th ADA Brigade’s S-3 until his separation from Active Duty. In March, 2012, CPT Newton became the Air Defense and Airspace Management (ADAM) Cell OIC for 55th Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division, Scranton, PA. He is currently as Military Science Instructor at Rowan University with the Princeton University Army ROTC.
CPT Newton currently resides in Browns Mills, New Jersey.
