Master Sergeant Jeffrey S. Updike

MSG Jeffrey S. Updike SR. was born in Portland, Oregon, on 9 September 1970. He enlisted into the United States Army 1 October 1991 attending One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, GA.
MSG Updike’s assignments include: Squad Leader, Delta Company 2nd BN 327th IN, FT. Campbell, KY (1991-1995); Team Leader, Bravo Company 1st BN 22nd IN, FT Hood, TX (1996-1998); Section Leader, Alpha Company 1st BN 9th IN, Camp Hovey, South Korea(1998-1999),; Section Leader, Bravo Company 1st BN 23rd IN, FT. Lewis, WA (1999-2000); Small Group Instructor, Henry H. Lind NCOA, FT. Lewis, WA(2000-2002); Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant, Alpha Company 1st BN 30th IN, FT. Benning, GA (2002-2006); Team NCOIC, Charlie Team 1st BN 357th IN, FT Lewis, WA (2006-2009); Team NCOIC, 1st Division Federal Police Transition Team Baghdad, Iraq(2009-2010); First Sergeant, Delta Company 1st BN 41st IN, FT. Bliss, TX (2010-2011); Headquarters and Headquarters Company 1st BN 41st IN, FT Bliss, TX (2011-2012); He is currently serving as the Senior Military Science Instructor at Princeton University.
He has three deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003, 2005-2006 and 2009-2010) and one in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (2011-2012).
MSG Updike’s military education includes; Warrior Leaders Course; Advanced Leaders Course; Senior Leaders Course; Air Assault Course; Combat Lifesaver Course; Instructor Training Course; Small Group Instructor Course and the First Sergeants Course.
His awards include the Bronze Star Medal (2 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (6 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal(1 Campaign Star); Iraqi Campaign Medal (4 Campaign Stars), National Defense Service Medal (Bronze Service Star), Korean Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal ,Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 4), Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
MSG Updike is married to the former Inge Askew of Newport News, VA, they have six children.
