Sergeant First Class Richard Maccini
SFC Maccini enlisted in the United States Army on the 10th of May 2001. He attended Basic Armor Reconnaissance Training at Fort Knox, KY, with B Troop 5-15 CAV. Upon completion of OSUT training he was assigned to B Troop, 1-1 CAV in Buedingen, Germany as a Bradley Driver. In May 2003, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I.
Once he redeployed he PCS’ed to Fort Polk, LA and was assigned to the 1/509 ABN IN. In route to Fort Polk, LA he attended the Basic Airborne Course. He served as a Dismounted Scout, Team Leader, and Section Leader. He attended and graduated from the Primary Leadership Development Course as the Distinguished Honor Graduate, Commandant’s list recipient and the APFT awardee. Additionally in 2005, he graduated from the United States Army Jumpmaster School and earned his Senior Parachutist Badge.
In April 2006 in transit to Fort Bragg, NC he attended the Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course at Fort Knox, KY graduating as the Distinguished Honor Graduate and a member of the Commandants List. Upon graduation he reported to Fort Bragg, NC and was assigned as a Section Leader in B Troop, 1-73 CAV. While on the nation’s Global Response Force in January 2007, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom V spearheading the “Surge”. After his 15 month deployment was complete, he returned to Fort Bragg, NC with follow on orders to Fort Polk, LA.
Upon arrival to Fort Polk SFC Maccini was assigned to TF 3 JRTC Operations Group in June 2008. He served as a Section and Platoon Observer Controller for 19 rotations, teaching doctrine and current Tactics, Techniques and Procedures to Section Leaders, Platoon sergeants, and Platoon Leaders throughout the Army. During his tenure at JRTC he graduated from the Army Reconnaissance Course and the United States Army Pathfinder Course.
From August 2010-May 2013, SFC Maccini served as a Platoon Sergeant in B Troop 5-73 CAV, Fort Bragg, NC. While assigned to 5-73 SFC Maccini graduated from the Cavalry Leaders Course, Battle Staff NCO Course, Master Fitness Trainer Course and Senior Leaders Course as a member of the Commandants List. He earned the Master Parachutist Badge, the Order of Saint George Bronze medallion and the Draper Leadership Award.
Most recently he has served as an Assistant Operations Sergeant in 5-73 CAV. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Excelsior College graduating cum laude. In 2014 he was selected as the 82nd Airborne Divisions Jumpmaster of the Year.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (9 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 Campaign Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (Numeral 2), Combat Action Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge and the Drivers Badge (T).
