Campus Safety in Focus: Advances & Ongoing Challenges One Year Later

The Policy Research Institute for the Region (PRIOR) released the publication, “Campus Safety in Focus: Advances & Ongoing Challenges One Year Later.” The report is drawn from the conference held in the Spring of 2008, cosponsored with the Princeton University Department of Public Safety and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). The conference explored the ongoing progress and continuing questions involved in securing university campuses.

The day-long program featured the release of IACLEA’s Blueprint for Safer Campuses, as well as presentations by nationally recognized experts on the best practices and model policies in threat assessment, the growing complexities in liability analysis and the broader sociological phenomena behind incidents.

The keynote address was delivered by Princeton University’s Katherine S. Newman, Director, Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies, Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs. Dr. Newman discussed the social roots of school shootings.

In addition, campus public safety professionals from institutions in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania offered their perspectives on campus safety in the region.
