Camille Sailer, Director, International Trade, NJ Economic Development Authority

Ms Sailer is the Director of International Trade for New Jersey, responsible for strategic implementation of the State’s policies to promote its exports, attract overseas investment and advocate on behalf of its businesses. Prior to assuming this role with the NJ Economic Development Authority, Ms Sailer was the Vice President for Business Development at the World Trade Center Greater Philadelphia, leading its strategic direction and expanding the WTCGP’s consulting expertise and client base.
From 2002 – 2007 Ms Sailer was Regional Commercial Counselor at the American Embassy in Brussels Belgium where she was responsible for a complex program of investment counseling, directing a large multi-cultural team and led trade promotion and policy for U.S. companies interested in doing business in Europe and with NATO.
She took up her duties as Commercial Counselor at the American Embassy in Seoul, Korea in 1995 and served there for seven years in a market critically important to American business. Ms Sailer was responsible for a high-profile operation, counseling U.S. investors, promoting American exports in the Korean market and also formulated trade policy and market access measures to assist American firms.
Ms Sailer served in Stuttgart, Germany from 1991-1995 as Principal Commercial Officer and Consul at the American Consulate General, representing U.S. business interests in the State of Baden-Wurttemberg. While in Germany, Ms Sailer played a key role in expanding the presence of American companies in the complicated regulatory environment represented by the German market.
Before her assignment to Stuttgart, Ms Sailer spent nine years in Seoul when she first served with the American Embassy there advising U.S. firms regarding investment problems and market access. Prior to that time, she served as a Foreign Service Officer with the Department of State at the American Embassy in Buenos Aires and Seoul and then as a legal advisor with a Korean international law firm. Ms Sailer developed and taught international business and trade law courses as visiting professor for the University of Maryland in Seoul.
Ms Sailer comes from the Philadelphia area and is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Lafayette College and received her law degree from Villanova University. She also attended the University of Madrid where she received a degree in Spanish studies summa cum laude. Her languages are Spanish, French, Dutch, Korean and German.
Ms Sailer speaks and writes extensively on international business practice and trade issues, most recently authoring the introduction for a legal text on EU constitutional law. She has been recognized by international organizations, including the American Chamber of commerce in Korea and the U.S. Chamber of Trade in Stuttgart for her work in prompting global business connections, and has an honorary degree from the Varoslav-the-Wise University (Novgorod, Russia) for her work on international legal cooperation. Ms Sailer is the recipient of the Commercial Service Director General’s Leadership in Innovation award for establishing CS Korea as a “Center of Innovation” and has been honored with the prestigious Stephen Kaminski Award for “exercising the greatest degree of diplomatic skill and ability in furthering America’s trade relations”. In December 2007 Ms Sailer received the Department of Commerce’s Bronze Medal for her leadership in Brussels to build a first-ever Europe-wide market research network for American investors and exporters.
