Seminar 11/7/2012 - Chung-Chih Wu, National Taiwan University: Oxide-Semiconductor-Based Thin-Film Transistors for Displays and Flexible Electronics

Bio: Dr. Chung-Chih Wu received his B.S. and Ph. D. degrees in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University in 1990, and from Princeton University in 1997, respectively. From 1997 to 1998, he was with the Industry Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Hsinchu, Taiwan, as a research scientist. Since 1998, he has been with the Electrical Engineering Department, National Taiwan University, where he is currently a Distinguished Professor. He also holds joint appointments with Graduate Institute of Photonics and Optoelectronics, and Graduate Institute of Electronics Engineering of National Taiwan University. He has conducted researches related to organic semiconductors and devices, oxide semiconductors and devices, and displays etc.

Abstract: Oxide-semiconductor-based thin film transistors (TFTs) are an emerging TFT technology in recent years due to their various interesting characteristics, such as high mobility, relatively low processing temperatures, facile fabrication, and transparency etc., making them a promising alternative to silicon-based or organic TFTs for displays and flexible electronics/displays.  In this presentation, a background introduction for oxide TFTs will be first given. Then, with the final goal of making flexible oxide TFTs on plastic substrates, I will first discuss our work in the development of oxide TFTs (initially on the glass substrates) and then transfer of the technology to the plastic substrates.

All seminars are held on Wednesdays from 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m. in the Bowen Hall Auditorium Room 222. A light lunch is provided at 11:30 a.m. in the Bowen Hall Atrium immediately prior to the seminar.
