Howard A. Stone
Donald R. Dixon '69 and Elizabeth W. Dixon
Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
Ph.D. 1988, California Institute of Technology
Professor Stone works in broadly in fluid mechanics, with particular emphasis on small-scale flows where viscous effects are dominant. In recent years his research has included studies of microfluidic systems, thin-film flows, swimming microorganisms, colloidal materials, foams, emulsions, cellular-scale hydrodynamics, and biofilms.
His research group conducts experimental, theoretical, and modeling studies, and he is interested in all manners of applications of fluid dynamics.
