Directions to Prospect House

By Train - Amtrak or NJ Transit to Princeton Junction at a time when it will meet the connector to Princeton University/Campus or from Newark Airport, take the “Princeton Airporter” shuttle to Princeton 609.587.6600.

By Car  

From the North:

  • Route 440 West to New Jersey Turnpike South             or

  • Route 287 South to New Jersey Turnpike South            or

  • Garden State Parkway to New Jersey Turnpike South

New Jersey Turnpike South to Exit 9.  Take Route 18 North, 3/4 mile to Route 1 South (initially following signs to New Brunswick).  About 15 miles South on Route 1 is Route 571 West/Washington Road in Princeton.  Turn right on Route 571 West/Washington Road. *** (Follow directions below)

 

From the East:

  • Route 33 West to Route 133 West exit (just before NJ Turnpike intersection). Continue on Route 133 West to Route 571 West exit.  Take Route 571 West about 5 miles (makes a right bend), cross over Route 1, and continue (also called Washington Road). *** (Follow directions below)            or      

  • Route 195 West to Route 295 North.  Get off Route 295 onto Route 1 North. After 3-4 miles, go left on Route 571 West/Washington Road (using jug-handle to the right). *** (Follow directions below)

From the South:

New Jersey Turnpike North to Exit 8.  Take Route 33 East (towards Freehold), about 1/2 mile, to Route 133 West (Princeton).  Continue on Route 133 West to Route 571 West exit.  Take Route 571 West about 5 miles (makes a right bend), cross over Route 1, and continue (also called Washington Road). *** (Follow directions below)

From Pennsylvania:

  • PA Turnpike East to New Jersey Turnpike North.  Follow directions From the South above.           or
  • Interstate 95 , which becomes 295.  Get off Route 295/95 onto Route 1 North.  After 3-4 miles, go left on Route 571 West/Washington Road (using jug-handle to the right). *** (Follow directions below)

*** Continue on Route 571 West/Washington Road for about 1.5 miles.  Go right on William Street.  Park your car in Lot #10 or #10A.  It will be on your left in the first block of William Street.  Walk back to William Street.  Cross Washington Road and enter the campus up the steps.  Pass the library on your right and the chapel on your left.  Turn left after the chapel.  1/4-mile ahead two brown stone pillar gateposts mark the entrance to the Prospect House.

From Washington DC - Go north on Interstate 95 which becomes the New Jersey Turnpike, Get off the New Jersey Turnpike at Exit 8 (Hightstown).

From Boston - Go South on Interstate 95 which, after you cross the George Washington Bridge in New York City becomes the New Jersey Turnpike. Continue south passing Newark Airport. Go south on the New Jersey Turnpike. Get off the turnpike at Exit 9 (New Brunswick) or Exit 8 (Hightstown) depending on traffic.

From Philadelphia - Go north on Interstate 95 which becomes 295. Get off Route 295/95 onto Route 1 northbound. After 3-4 miles go left on Alexander Road (using the jug-handle to the right). To get to the center of town and the main entrance to the campus, go 1.5 miles up Alexander Road until it forks Right onto University Place. Fork Right. Follow University Place to Nassau Street and turn right on Nassau Street, campus on right. At the first traffic light that has a right turn, go right at Washington Road. The very first left is William Street. Go left on William Street. Park your car in lot #10 or 10A. It will be on your left in the first block of William Street. Cross Washington Road and enter the campus. Pass the library on your right and pass the chapel on your left. Turn left ¼ mile ahead the entrance of Prospect Garden is marked by two stone pillar gateposts.

To get to the center of town and the Main Entrance to Campus, Continue on Route 571/Washington Road for about 1.5 miles. Go RIGHT on William Street. Park your car in LOT #10 or 10A. It will be on your left in the first block of William Street. Walk back up William Street. Cross Washington Street and enter the campus. Pass the library on your right, pass the chapel on your left. Turn left after the chapel. ¼ mile ahead the entrance to Prospect Garden is marked by two stone pillar gateposts.

Parking Information for the Prospect House

Parking at Princeton University is restricted due to the limited number of spaces available. The following options are available to you and your guests.

  • All bridal parties are allowed three (3) parking spaces on the Prospect circle for the duration of your reception. Arrangements for these spaces will be made directly through your Prospect House representative.
  • For your guests, Lot 10 and 10A (off William Street) are available after 5:00 pm weekdays and on weekends. They are approximately a 3-minute walk from the House.
  • The municipal lot is open for parking any time, on a metered basis. It is approximately a 5 minute walk from the Prospect House.
  • There are a limited number of metered spaces along Nassau Street and Prospect Avenue which can be used for shorter periods of time.
  • It is sometimes possible to arrange special parking for large groups, and is handled on a space-available basis through the University Parking Office.

Note: For all weekend events, use the Faculty Road entrance as the Nassau Street gates are closed.

Policy For Use of Prospect Gardens

The beautiful Gardens of Prospect House are a delight for all who visit the campus. Our primary responsibility is to provide a garden floral display that can be enjoyed by the University community and visitors to the campus. In order to maintain the exquisite appearance of the Gardens, please adhere to the following restrictions:
The lower gardens may not be used for ceremonies of any kind.
The lower gardens may be used for picture taking purposes only.
Ceremonies may be performed in the Rose Garden and side of the house (by the Cedar of Lebanon) only.

The use of platforms and tents is strictly prohibited. Use of canopies is allowed.
The Gardens are reserved for wedding parties having their reception at the Prospect House.
If you are not having your reception at the Prospect House, you may still be able to reserve the use of the Gardens for pictures by calling the Center for Visitor and Conference Services at 609.258.6116. Permission will be granted only if there is not a wedding at Prospect House that day. If a wedding is scheduled at Prospect House the day you would like to use the Gardens, the wedding takes precedence and you will no longer be able to use the Gardens.
