Research Opportunities
Princeton University believes that research is a vital part of the educational experience. In support of Princeton's mission to be one of the leading research universities in the world and to provide an unparalleled education to Princeton students, research opportunities for students of all levels are available. These opportunities include class work and independent projects conducted within formal academic programs as well as research experiences that occur beyond the bounds of traditional degree programs, such as summer programs, internships and research assistantships.
Funding
Many offices, departments and schools at the University provide assistance and support to students in need of research funding. Students are encouraged to discuss their research interests and funding needs with faculty advisers; deans, directors of studies and peer advisers in the residential colleges; and departmental representatives.
Training & Education
There are numerous training resources available for researchers at Princeton. These educational materials and programs support the University’s mission to create, transmit and preserve knowledge while protecting and serving the public interest. All researchers who work in certain environments must complete laboratory safety training, and specialized training programs are required of all faculty, staff and students who work with human subjects and laboratory animals to ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations and University policies.
Invention & Entrepreneurship
The University encourages students who are interested in invention and entrepreneurship to pursue their ideas and to speak with likeminded faculty, students and staff members to learn more about the innovation process. Additionally, a variety of courses, clubs and events, including networking opportunities and business plan competitions, are available for student inventors and entrepreneurs.
Policy Library
The research enterprise at Princeton is committed to serving the public good and to upholding the highest standards of ethical behavior in all University research endeavors. In recognition of this commitment, a variety of policies exist to govern student members of the Princeton research community. These policies cover a range of topics, including intellectual property and misconduct in research. In governing Princeton's research community, the University recognizes that Princeton's responsibility and accountability extends to numerous stakeholders within the University community and beyond, including government authorities, sponsors, donors and the general public, all of whom have vested trust and resources in Princeton's research endeavors.
