Deborah Kaple
Deborah Kaple teaches in the Sociology Department. She is a specialist on communism, Russia, China and in particular, Stalinism. Her first book examined how the Chinese adopted the Soviet model in the 1950s. (Dream of a Red Factory, Oxford University Press, 1994)). Her current project is a translation of a memoir by a Gulag boss who worked in a slave labor camp above the Arctic Circle. (Gulag Boss, Oxford University Press, forthcoming 2010).
