How can I pay for an SCI computer?
As of October 29, 2015, the SCI program no longer accepts credit cards as a form of payment.
Seniors note: After November 15 seniors are unable to purchase an SCI laptop. If you are a senior and are interested in purchasing an SCI laptop, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org requesting more information. In some cases other arrangements may be available.
The Student Account option is available to seniors up until November 15th of their last academic year at Princeton. Other active students may use their Student Account at any time.
The computer charge will appear on your student account along with any Princeton charges for tuition, housing, etc. The SCI computer charge will be subject to the same rules as any other student account charge. Payments are due in full at the end of the month in which the charge appears on your bill. If you purchase your computer in August, the charge will likely appear on your student account in September, and the full amount (along with any other charges, like tuition, that also appear on your account) will be due at the end of September or on the due date printed on the bill.
Charges that post to your student account automatically will reduce your stipend unless there are sufficient funds in the account to cover the charge, such as loan credit. The amount by which your stipend will be reduced depends on the amount of the charge as well as when the computer is purchased. The stipend will be reduced by the total outstanding balance, divided by the number of pay periods remaining in the current semester. For example, assuming your previous Student Account balance is zero ($0), your computer purchase is $1600, and there are 4 pay periods left in the current semester, each of the remaining stipend payments would be reduced by $400.
For questions about student account charges, please call 609-258-6378.
The Financial Aid option is available to seniors who qualify up until November 15th of their last academic year at Princeton. Other active students who qualify for Financial Aid may use it at any time, but only once during their academic years at Princeton. E-mail email@example.com, to discuss your status.
If you are a student receiving need-based financial aid from Princeton, you can borrow through one of the subsidized student loan programs to cover the cost of your computer. Students who qualify will be offered this payment option on their order form. This aid will be in the form of a loan, not a grant*, and is applicable to only one SCI purchase during your undergraduate years at Princeton. If your on-line order form does not include this option and you believe you are an eligible aid student, you can contact the financial aid office at 609-258-3330, or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
*If you are receiving a Princeton grant but the amount was reduced as the result of an outside scholarship, you may use lost grant funds toward the purchase of a computer. Select "Financial Aid Loan" as your payment option; we will automatically use grant funds, up to the amount your grant was reduced for the receipt of the outside award. This option is available once during your undergraduate years at Princeton. (Note: If your outside scholarship exceeds your need, you are not eligible for University grant funds to purchase a computer)
Graduate students who are US citizens or permanent residents may be eligible for a federal student loan to cover their computer purchase. For more information, contact the Graduate School Office at 609-258-3028 or visit http://gso.princeton.edu/financial/. If you arrange for a Graduate Student loan in this manner, your computer purchase will be charged to your Student Account. When the proceeds of your loan are received, you are responsible for paying off the computer on your Student Account with the funds from the federal student loan. Please contact the Student Accounts office at email@example.com or by calling 609-258-6378 once your loan has been authorized.
The Princeton Computer Installment Loan option is available to all students until eight months prior to their estimated departure from Princeton. In order to qualify for this loan, students may not have any outstanding computer installment loans with the University.
The Princeton Computer Installment Loan is financed at a rate established yearly by the Loans & Receivables Department. Visit the Loans and Receivables Computer Loan Programs page to see the current interest rate and repayment options. The loan is payable monthly with the final payment due on May 1 of the year in which you leave Princeton (4 year / 48 month maximum term). Payments are due monthly, throughout the year, including when classes are not in session.
For questions regarding the Princeton Computer Installment Loan, please send e-mail to Jon Luse at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 609-258-5901.
