Scott Kemp is a Research Scholar at the Program on Science and Global Security at the Woodrow Wilson School. He specializes in the technology and history of nuclear proliferation by uranium enrichment. He has also worked on environmental sampling, remote sensing for detecting covert nuclear programs, and space security.
From 2010-2011, Kemp served as Science Advisor at the State Department Office of the Special Advisor for Nonproliferation and Arms Control where he was the lead developer of technical negotiation positions for resolving the nuclear crisis with Iran and the Department's top gas-centrifuge expert. His technical work on centrifuge and laser enrichment has been used in studies by the National Academy of Sciences, the American Physical Society, and the JASON defense advisory group. Kemp also serves as an advisor to the International Panel on Fissile Materials and the Independent Group of Scientific Experts for the Detection of Clandestine Fissile Material Production. Prior to coming to Princeton, Kemp was Fulbright fellow in London and a member of the research staff at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York.
Kemp has an undergraduate degree in physics from the University of California and a PhD in Public and International Affairs from Princeton University.
