Name: Web page development by Information Access staff for non CIT-clients
Brief description: Information Access staff assist non CIT University clients in creating Web pages and in publishing Microsoft Access databases on the Web.
Applicable charges: None
Eligible customers: Faculty, students, staff, departments, recognized University organizations
Hours of service or availability: Regular University business working hours.
Location of service or product: Usually client comes to CIT offices, but CIT staff will go to the individual when specially requested.
Requests for service or product go to: Any IA staff member.
Problems should be reported and Compliments or complaints addressed to Serge Goldstein.
Required of customers: To have Web access and at least basic knowledge of word processing. It is preferred that the client has basic understanding of html. Client must have either an active Unix account or access to Novell. For database publishing, knowledge of MS Access.
Restrictions affecting service: Information Access staff will help develop Web pages, but not perform general maintenance of the page(s).
CIT's Information Access group will assist in:
Web page planning
Software recommendations
Web page design
html instruction
Instruction on special Web services (Graphics, forms, CGI...)
Web page creation
Unix/Novell set up for Web pages
Pointers to other CIT Web support services (The PLACE, Help Desk...)
MS Access database design planning
Measures of success: Client satisfaction, which they can gauge by noting Web hits or providing their users the opportunity to comment on their Web pages.
Publish list of web pages for which assistance was provided.
Goals for service improvement: Keep up with Web page development/creation tools.
Detail of CIT responsibilities:
Keep up with development/creation tools.
Test new development/creation tools.
Plan and provide drafts of client Web page(s).
Teach client html.
Create html for client.
Provide graphics.
Teach graphic creation.
Set up Unix/Novell accounts for Web page(s).
Test pages.
Critique pages.
Teach client IDC/HTX technology for publishing MS Access databases
