MATLAB Network License Installation for Unix

Notes:
 
A wired connection is preferable.  This installation can only be completed while connected to the Princeton University network.  If you are not on campus and would like to install MATLAB go here.

Cifs-Utils package may be required for mounting a network share.

 
Connect to network share:
 

Debian Based Systems (i.e. Ubuntu, Linux Mint)

  • Launch Terminal
  • Create a directory for mounting the MATLAB installer
    $sudo mkdir -p /mnt/MATLAB
  • Change permissions on dircetory
    $sudo chmod 755 /mnt/MATLAB
  • Mount MATLAB installer from network
    $sudo mount -t cifs -o user=Princeton\\netid //files.princeton.edu/Licensed/Products/Matlab/
    R2014a/Unix_MacOSX /mnt/MATLAB and type your Princeton password when prompted
         *See instructions: Download from MathWorks if mount fails when using Ubuntu
  • Browse to /mnt/MATLAB, open Princeton_README.txt and copy the appropriate File Installation Key. (faculty/staff or student)

Redhat Based Systems (i.e. CentOS, Fedora, Springdale) 

  • Launch Terminal
  • Switch to root user and enter password when prompted
    #su
  • Create a directory for mounting the MATLAB installer
    #mkdir -p /mnt/MATLAB
  • Change permissions on dircetory
    #chmod 755 /mnt/MATLAB
  • Mount MATLAB installer from network
    #mount -t cifs -o user=Princeton\\netid //files.princeton.edu/Licensed/Products/Matlab/
    R2014a/Unix_MacOSX /mnt/MATLAB and type your Princeton password when prompted
  • Browse to /mnt/MATLAB, open Princeton_README.txt and copy the appropriate File Installation Key. (faculty/staff or student)

  1. Start Installation by typing /mnt/MATLAB/install
  2. In the Mathworks Installer window, select Use a File Installation Key and click Next
  3. Select Yes to accept the license agreement and click Next
  4. Select I have the File Installation Key for my license
  5. Paste the File Installation Key into the text field and click Next
  6. Click Next to accept the default location
  7. Click Next to accept the default products to install
  8. Copy /mnt/MATLAB/license.lic and paste into license file location text field and click Next
  9. Enable Create symbolic links to MATLAB scripts
  10. Click Yes if prompted to create a destination folder
  11. Click Install
  12. Click Next if the Product Configuration Notes screen is displayed
  13. Click Finish to complete installation
 
MATLAB and all Princeton licensed toolboxes are now installed on your computer. It will only run while connected to the Princeton University network or with a VPN connection. See following link to activate a local license if you need to work offline (no network connection).
