Scientific Workplace Network Installation for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 Computers

REQUEST SERIAL NUMBER FROM SOFTWARE SALES

You will need to contact Software Sales for a software serial number of Scientific Workplace.  Once you have the serial number follow these instructions to install the software and configure the new license.

HOW TO CONNECT TO THE SCIENTIFIC WORKPLACE SOFTWARE FOLDER ON FILESERVER

  1. Browse to:
    • \\files.princeton.edu\licensed\Products\Scientific Workplace\5.5\
  2. You can go directly to the installation by copying the above line into the clipboard by highlighting it and right-clicking on the highlighted text, then selecting Copy.
  3. Click on the start menu in the lower left hand corner of your desktop. Choose "My Computer" (or "Computer" if running Vista).
  4. Click in the text field at the top of the window, paste the network path from the clipboard by right-clicking in the text field and choosing Paste. Hit return.
  5. If you aren't already logged in with your Princeton account, you may be asked to log in at this point:
    • Connect As: PRINCETON\netID (Replace netID with your Princeton NetID)
    • Password: (Your Windows password)

GENERAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR SCIENTIFIC WORKPLACE

  • Start the install as an Administrator on your computer.
  • Double-click on the setup icon. (If you are using Microsoft Vista: right-click and choose "Run as Administrator" from the drop-down list.)
  • The Scientific Workplace installation will begin to run. When it asks for a Serial Number, give it the number you received from the Software Sales group.
  • Fill in your "User Name" and "Organization", keeping the aforementioned Serial Number.
  • Accept the default options for the install.
  • To complete the installation, continue on with either or both of the next two licensing sections.

ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING A LOCAL LICENSE FILE

(This license can be used anywhere, but must be renewed annually)

  • Register with your user information using the Automated Web Service option.  This will generate a request for a license, which will be sent to Software Sales, who will contact you with your license file.
  • Reboot the computer when requested.
  • When you've received your license file from Software Sales, start Scientific Workplace by clicking on the desktop shortcut or selecting it from the Start menu, under Start → Scientific Workplace 5.5 → Scientific Workplace
  • Enter in the license information.

ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE LICENSE SERVER

(This license never expires, but requires being on campus or connected to campus via VPN)

  • Skip registration by choosing to register later.
  • Reboot the computer when requested.
  • Browse to C:\swp55\Licenses
  • Copy \\files.princeton.edu\licensed\Products\Scientific Workplace\5.5\license.lic to there.
  • Alternately, create a file called license.lic containing these two lines:
    SERVER CSESLICENSE.Princeton.EDU 0050569349C5 27000
    USE_SERVER
  • Start Scientific Workplace by clicking on the desktop shortcut or selecting it from the Start menu, under Start → Scientific Workplace 5.5 → Scientific Workplace
  • Verify that you have access to all the licenses by clicking on Help → System Features
