Jens Andermann (Birkbeck College, University of London) appointed visiting professor for Spring term  
Jens Andermann’s areas of interest are in cultural and literary theory and history, and their relation to political processes, in particular in Argentina, Brazil and the Southern Cone. He has published extensively on modern visual culture and the state, border geographies, the aesthetics and politics of collecting and museums, and on photography and the new Latin American cinema. His current research focuses on landscape as an object and expression of the tensions running through Latin American modernity. He also directs a research network on questions of realism in contemporary Brazilian and Argentinean cinema. He will teach an undergraduate course, SPA 350/LAS 349: “Profane Realisms – Latin American Cinema and Literature,” and a graduate course, SPA 548: “Modernity and the Landscape” during Spring 2010.
