Profile
Nicola Trowbridge Cooney (B.A. King's College University of London, Associate of King's College, Ph.D. Harvard Univeristy) directs the Portuguese language program and teaches courses in language, culture and literature. Her dissertation explores the figure of the 'femme fatale' in the lyrical universe of nineteenth-century poet Cesário Verde and she has published articles on female imagery and representations of the city in Cesário's work. Further research interests include Luso-African literature and film, migratory patterns in the Portuguese-speaking world, Medieval and Renaissance literatures and second language acquisition.
