Career Services

Career Services is the best place to begin investigating summer jobs and internships, or discovering all of the things you can do with a particular major, or preparing for graduate school or post-graduation employment. Career counselors can help you clarify interests, explore career options, evaluate graduate and professional schools and develop job-search strategies. You can go in for a short walk-in visit or a longer appointment. Call 8-3325 to check walk-in times or to schedule an appointment. Career Services is located at 36 University Place, Suite 200 (above the U-Store).

In the career resource library, you'll have access to books, periodicals, newsletters and videotapes providing career profiles and occupational information. You can find helpful aids for graduate school applications and interview preparation.

The office also offers workshops and panels that provide insight into a variety of corporate and nonprofit organizations and career fields. While it sponsors several types of career fairs (nonprofit, on-campus and virtual), the largest career fair with representation from more than 100 organizations is in the fall. It's a great way to learn about jobs.

The Career Services website carries guides that can help you understand the fundamentals of writing a resumé or a cover letter and preparing a personal statement for graduate school. In its Alumni Careers Network database, there are over 4,000 alumni waiting to talk to you about your interests. Its searchable internship database -- TigerTracks -- has more than 25,000 summer, semester and year-long internships that offer paid, stipend and volunteer options around the world. The system can be a little tricky to navigate, but Career Services holds orientation sessions year-round.
