Associate Director Job Opening

Innovations for Successful Societies seeks a full-time on-site associate director. ISS conducts research on institutional reform in post-conflict and low-income countries around the globe. The associate director works closely with the center's faculty director to select and manage a team of research specialists, to guide the fundamental work of the program, and to be a liaison with other center directors at the University.

The associate director’s responsibilities include training and coaching research specialists, managing daily operations of the program, conducting background research to support site selection, editing case study and script drafts, monitoring the work of related centers, devising and managing work plans for on-time delivery of research output, forging and maintaining collaborations with outside organizations, conducting outreach activities to disseminate ISS research projects, managing ISS’s contracted editors and researchers, supporting the director’s work by producing reports and memos, and presenting the program's work to small audiences. On occasion, the associate director will participate in research overseas and act as a liaison with partner programs abroad. Travel is usually for two weeks at a time and may include work in countries that are under State Department travel advisories.

Requirements include strong knowledge of and passionate interest in the research and outcomes at the heart of the center's work, excellent organizational and analytical skills, proficiency in writing and editing complex documents, a desire to work in different cultures and environments around the world, and strong experience in managing projects and teams. Selected candidates will be required to complete a written exercise.

Bachelor's degree required, M.A. or Ph.D. preferred. The finalist will be required to successfully pass a background check. Proficiency in a language other than English is desirable but not essential. Overseas experience in a developing country is a strong plus. Knowledge of university preferred but not required.

Senior Research Specialist Job Opening

Innovations for Successful Societies seeks a senior research specialist to develop interview-based case studies of public sector reform in low-income and/or post-conflict countries. The specialist will develop background research, participate in the preparation of scripts, build a network of key contacts, help identify field sites, plan and organize overseas research trips, conduct interviews with key reformers abroad, draft case studies and memoranda, and carry out a variety of other related tasks. This is a full-time, on-site, one-year term position with a three-month probation period. There is opportunity for renewal contingent on performance.
