Identifying New Opportunities for Revenue Generation
Initiatives in this category focus on revenue generation from departments and offices that charge fees for services and, within the restrictions of the University’s tax-exempt status, may have external customers. Examples include:
- Increases to some fees and expanded access for external customers to Prospect and Palmer Houses.
- Trademark and Licensing Fees, which increased to 10 percent by FY11, resulted in approximately $50,000 in new revenue per year.
- Conference and Event Services’ growth of several existing clients, coupled with the addition of a number of new summer programs, yielded approximately $100,000 in new income for FY11.
- Implementing a modified budgeting structure for revenue generating departments (e.g., Dining Services, Housing and Real Estate Services) to more accurately reflect total operating costs, including University investments in those departments.
