Leadership Position Open in SURGE (Students United for a Responsible Global Environment)
There is an opening for the position of Co-Chair of Media and Intergroup Communication in Princeton's student group, Students United for a Responsible Global Environment (SURGE).
Brief Description:
Coordinates the critical roles of publicizing events and recruiting new members, including either overseeing teams or individually arranging for or executing the timely design, printing, and hanging of posters, banners, sweet T-shirts, flyers, stickers etc.; posting event blurbs to the SURGE Blog, listserves, Point, and other web-based advertisements, sending emails, contacting departments, and occasionally running around in costumes.
Serves as the liaison between SURGE and PEN and the PSC on a regular basis (attending monthly meetings); and the Office of Sustainability, Greening Princeton, other student groups, Princeton Community groups (if feasible), and other colleges as applicable. Summarizes minutes from PEN and PSC meetings and reports back at meetings. Works with the Vice Presidents to facilitate inter-group activities. Coordinates activities partnering with other colleges.
Expectations:
-
Publicize all SURGE events and efforts as widely and completely as possible. See SURGE publicity list that has been emailed to you. Work closely with the VPs to oversee publicity when they run events.
-
Represent SURGE at PEN and PSC meetings. If unable to attend, please send someone in your place.
-
Email a brief summary of the previous PEN and/or PSC meeting to the Secretary before each weekly meeting, for inclusion in the Minutes.
- Write a brief “survival guide” outlining tips, tricks, and lessons learned for the next Co-Chair of Media and Intergroup Communication.
There are a lot of benefits to becoming a SURGE officer: you can play a larger role in the decisions that are made and have a larger impact. Also, it is a useful experience that can be a stepping stone for other positions in SURGE and other organizations in the future.
TO APPLY, please email a 1-3 paragraph description of why you are interested and why you think you’d be a good fit to alandon@princeton.edu, by Friday, March 5th at midnight.
