|A Panel on Energy, the Environment and Endowment Investing
At Princeton and on campuses nationwide, an intense debate has broken out as to whether universities should divest their endowments from fossil-fuel companies. Institutions with large endowments like Princeton are under particular pressure to lead by example. Some of the relevant questions include: What do we mean by divestment? Would divesting have the desired impact? How might divestment affect the endowment? What alternatives exist? The Princeton Association of NYC (PANYC) will be hosting a panel discussion among leading thinkers about climate policy, energy and the future of shareholder capitalism, moderated by Trustee Carl Ferenbach '64. Panelists: David Crane '81, President and CEO, NRG Energy Michael Oppenheimer, Ph.D., Albert G. Milbank Professor of Geosciences and International Affairs in the Woodrow Wilson School and the Department of Geosciences at Princeton University Peter Singer, Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics at Princeton University, and a Laureate Professor at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at the University of Melbourne Randall A.
