Energy Service Corps Application Deadline
( More about event)
Energy Service Corps is a joint project of the New Jersey Public Interest Research Group and AmeriCorps working with local communities to achieve greater energy efficiency - to cut down on our energy use for the betterment of the environment and to cut costs and save residents money on utility bills. Energy Service Corps focuses on educating and serving local communities through educating low-income communities, providing direct services such as weatherizing homes and educating schoolchildren about energy efficiency.
Project coordinators take on a lead role to teach local schoolchildren fun interactive lessons about energy efficiency, lead an energy assessment of a local building, and coordinate service projects like light bulb distributions that bring together local community groups. Project coordinators forge partnerships with community and faith-based groups, meet with local and state officials to encourage their participation in community projects and events, contact the media to write about energy efficiency, and adapt educational activities to fit the needs of local communities and to appeal to a wide range of age groups - all in an effort to foster long-term community stewardship and increase energy efficiency across the state!
