1.  Restructuring of the PSC/Introduction of Members

Mike McKay welcomed everyone to the meeting; introductions were made.  Mike McKay reported the Committee had undergone a restructuring in order to accommodate the administration of the $3.5 M High Meadows Fund for research, education and civic engagement over a four-year period.  The PSC will review recommendations from the ARP (Academic Review Panel) and the CERP (Civic Engagement Review Panel) for funds to be allocated to student, faculty and staff projects.

2.  High Meadows Sustainability Fund

Shana Weber reported applications for High Meadows funding must be submitted by November 21. Shana also reported that an ad hoc committee of administrators reviewed proposals received last spring.  Funds were awarded to Outdoor Action, the Forbes College Garden Project, the Farmers' Market, the Student Environmental Communications Network and a data collection effort on Lake Carnegie.  More information regarding the High Meadows Fund can be found on the Office of Sustainability website: http://www.princeton.edu/sustainability/psc/highmeadows/.

3Sustainability Plan

  • Sustainability Open House, September 17 - Shana reported over 900 people attended the Sustainability Open House introducing Princeton's green initiatives with ambassadors from departments, student organizations, academic and research groups.
  • Working Groups Updates/PU Report Card - Shana reported the PSC Working Groups (listed below) continue their work and a "report card" on their efforts will be released in September 2009.

4.  Announcements

  • "Green" Vendor Fair - Don Weston, Director of Purchasing, reported that the Vendor Fair will be held in Dillon Gym on Tuesday, October 28.  Over 100 contract vendors will participate.  Staff and faculty members are invited to attend.  This year's theme is "Going Green."
  • NECSC 5th Annual Meeting - Shana reported Princeton University will host the Northeast Campus Sustainability Consortium meeting on October 27 and 28.  The theme of the conference is "The Sustainability Puzzle: Putting the Pieces Together."

5.  Other Issues

  • Kim Jackson and Andrea DeRose reported (1) there is a database on the transportation website for employees interested in carpooling to campus, and (2) the University is working with New Jersey Transit to get a 25% discount for students.
  • Ruthie Schwab gave an update on the Forbes College Garden project.  An interpretive map for visitors to tour the garden and the types of produce available were discussed.
  • Jeff Domanski reported the first Campus Bicycle Map was produced in the fall.
  • The current shuttle routes for graduate students and a proposal to have late-night service were discussed.

The meeting adjourned.  The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 13.
