Hardware Support offers data recovery services to members of the University community who have class work, pictures, or music files that need to be recovered from corrupt media. If you believe you've lost data because of a damaged or inaccessible disk, and you have no backup copy, this service is for you!
We can can recover your data from many different types of media including hard drives, floppy disks, USB keys, smart media, compact flash — almost anything you use to store data. We have four custom-built machines dedicated to data recovery. These machines run specialized data recovery software — the same software used by outside professional data recovery firms.
This is a walk-in service, and you can bring your drive to us at either the Solutions Center at Frist or our offices at 171 Broadmead. We charge an initial diagnostic fee, and will charge you our current hourly rate only for time spent working on your recovery. An average recovery takes 2-3 hours. Because a defective device may completely fail at any time, we will ask you to list the files you want to recover in order of priority so that we can retrieve your most important files first. Recovered data will be returned to you on CD, DVD or an external hard drive.
If we can't recover your data, we can send your drive to a professional data recovery service. These services open the drive case in a clean room, and may be able to retrieve data from the physical disk platter itself. These services can be very expensive; costs average $2500, including a non-refundable initial diagnostic fee.
