What is the Rideshare Carpool Service?
The Rideshare Carpool Service is a free carpool matching service for the Princeton University community. Participation is voluntary. The program provides interested applicants with a match list of other Princeton University community members who live and work near them and want to carpool. Commuters set up their own carpools to fit their particular commuting needs. This service is available for Princeton University faculty and staff only.
How does it work?
You provide your Princeton University email address to the Rideshare Database along with the other information requested on the online form. The information is entered into the database, and you may wait for someone to contact you or view the “List Rides” link to see if someone meets your criteria.
How do I join?
Princeton University community members can join the Rideshare Carpool Service online.
CLICK HERE TO JOIN THE RIDESHARE CARPOOL SERVICE
Steps for using the database:
1. Enter the online Rideshare Database.
2. A screen will appear, click on the section labeled, "Become a Member &
Post a Ride."
3. After reading the rules and regulations, click "I Accept."
4. The next screen will ask for you to create a login ID and password.
5. The following screen is where you enter the information needed to connect
you with another potential carpool candidate. *PLEASE do not put your
exact address; a common location around town or landmark is all that is
needed for the initial step. Once you feel comfortable with the person,
detailed information can then follow.
6. Once you have entered in your information, you may wait for someone to
contact you or you can view "List Rides" to see if someone meets your
criteria.
Example ride description:
Name: JD Destination: Princeton University
Coming From: Hightstown, near the Cedar Hill Cemetery
Frequency: Mon – Fri 8:00 am – 4:00 pm; Flexible by: 10 minutes
Drive: I Am Offering A Ride; Smoke: No Smoking Radio: No Preference Status: Open
Important Information for using database:
• Your contact information is not viewable until you request to make contact.
• If you no longer want to post a ride or have found a match, change your status from "Open" to "Close."
• If you and your carpool candidate wish to invite a third person, keep status to "Open."
• If matches are not found within six months, your account will be dissolved. This assures that viewers are looking at the most up-to-date information and not reaching out to an individual that has either lost interest or is no
longer employed at the University.
• If, for any reason, you have additional requests there is a “Comments Box”
to post additional information.
*Disclaimer: Princeton University is not responsible for physical injury or vehicle damage which may occur during the operation of a carpool.
Incentives and Rewards
Gas Card/Oil Change Certificate
Employees who commute via a carpool are eligible to receive a $50 gas card, every three months the carpool remains in operation.* New participants will also receive a $25 oil change certificate for signing up for the program. Participants of this program are not eligible for an annual parking permit; however, each carpool will receive one carpool-designated hangtag. This hangtag allows carpoolers to park in any carpool-designated preferred parking space. Please complete the Carpool Gas Card Incentive form and return it to Kim Jackson at Transportation & Parking Services, A Floor New South.
For more information, please contact Kim Jackson, Director of Transportation & Parking, at kimj@princeton.edu or 258-7855.
*For the gas cards we are providing, the amount of $50 is considered as additional income and will be subject to state and federal taxes. These taxes will be processed through the Princeton University Payroll department following receipt of the gas card.
