University Health Services

Emergency care for illness, injury, or psychological concerns is available after regular business hours for students who require immediate attention.

Entrance to the McCosh Health Center is limited only to those needing emergency care after hours or visiting friends who are receiving care at Inpatient Services. Students may access the McCosh Health Center after business hours by using the intercom system in the vestibule of front entrance to the building. After pressing the intercom button, a staff member will respond and unlock the door. Students should proceed directly to Inpatient Services located on the second floor of the building.

Patients are usually seen in the order in which they arrive. However, the nursing staff provides care to students staying at Inpatient Services and handles emergency problems first; therefore students may experience a wait. A registered nurse will evaluate all patients and provide the necessary advice and instruction to manage the concern. If additional care is indicated, the nurse will discuss the concern with the physician or mental health professional, which is available to the nurse for phone consultation after hours.

Based on the severity of the problem, patients may be asked to schedule an appointment during regular business hours or return the next day, be admitted to Inpatient Services for over night care and observation, or be sent to the emergency room at the University Medical Center at Princeton for additional treatment.
