Moving into Faculty and Staff Housing
Pre-Occupancy To-Do List
The Faculty and Staff Housing Office has compiled a pre-occupancy to-do list; a list of arrangements to be completed prior to moving in to your residence. Details, necessary forms, and contact information are provided here. If you have any questions please contact the Faculty and Staff Housing Office.
Submit Your Security Deposit to the Housing Office
A security deposit equal to the amount of one month's rent is due prior to your occupancy. Keys will not be provided until the deposit is paid.
Your security deposit can be paid in the following ways:

Include a Completed W-8 (and Documentation) or W-9 with Your Security Deposit
Your security deposit will be deposited in an interest bearing account. Federal restrictions governing the establishment of interest bearing accounts require you to submit a completed Form W-9 (U.S. residents and non-residents with a social security number) or a Form W-8 (non-residents of the U.S without a social security number). When completing a W-8 a copy of your visa and passport must be provided as well.

Obtain Appropriate Personal Property Insurance Coverage
You are required to meet certain insurance requirements. The Housing Department website provides the details. You should be prepared to provide proof of proper coverage.
Submit Lead Acknowledgement Form to the Housing Office
The University is required by federal law to provide you, the contract holder, the results of lead paint tests obtained for selected University apartments. Please read the lead disclosure statement, print a copy for your records, and print and complete the acknowledgement form and return it to the Housing Office. Read the State of NJ "Truth in Renting" Publication
The Truth-in-Renting Act requires the Department of Community Affairs to prepare and publish a statement of the rights and responsibilities of residential tenants and landlords which must be made available to tenants. This publication is available on the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs website and may be downloaded.
Submit the Stanworth Apartments Housing Plan Acknowledgement Form
(Stanworth Apartment residents only)
Residents of the Stanworth Apartments are required to read and submit the Stanworth Apartments Housing Plan Acknowledgement Form certifying their understanding of the Housing Master Plan in which Stanworth will begin to transition to Graduate Housing beginning July 1, 2011. Residents are required to sign the form and return it to the Faculty and Staff Housing Office.

Set Up a PSE&G Account in Your Name
Public Service Electric and Gas Company provides electricity and perhaps gas (depending on your apartment) to your apartment. As the contract holder, if your contract states that you are responsible for these expenses you are required to:
- Establish a billing account in your name at least 10 days prior to your occupancy date.
- Provide payment of all utility billings from PSE&G associated with your residence.
- Notify PSE&G of your occupancy and vacate dates at least 10 days prior to these dates.
Failure to meet these requirements may result in a charge to you by the University of $200.00 as an administrative fee.

* Please note: Princeton University rental property tenants cannot use the online form to request service.
Set Up an Account with the Water Company
New Jersey American Water meters the water provided to your residence. As the contract holder, if your contract states that you are responsible for these expenses you are required to:
- Establish a billing account in your name at least ten days prior to your occupancy date.
- Provide payment of all utility billings from the New Jersey American Water associated with your residence.
- Notify New Jersey American Water of your occupancy and vacate dates at least 10 days prior to these dates.
Failure to meet these requirements may result in a charge to you by the University of $200.00 as an administrative fee.

If your contract indicates that you must pay separately for water, you must contact the company to set up an account. Refer to your contract for clarification of your utility responsibility.
Set Up Phone and/or Internet Account (Optional)
The most popular providers in this area are Verizon and AT&T, however you may use the company of your choice. Contact Information is provided for your convenience.

Set Up Cable TV Service (Optional)
Comcast is the provider of Cable TV service in the area. Contact information is provided.
Obtain a Parking Permit
The Transportation and Parking Office regulates parking on campus and at University housing properties. To register your vehicle and to obtain a parking permit, please see the Transportation and Parking Office website. Parking maps and regulations are also contained there.
