Personal Property Protection and Liability Insurance

Insurance Requirement for all who live in University rental apartments and houses

All University lease and contract holders are required to carry and maintain personal property protection (“renter’s”) Insurance while living in University rental apartments and houses. Those with pets must also carry personal liability coverage. The minimum acceptable levels of coverage for 2012-2013 are $4000 in personal property protection for all contract holders and $100,000 in personal liability coverage for those with pets. Residents may keep pets only after registering them with the Housing Office by filing a Resident Information Sheet and provide proof of the required level of liability insurance. The University provides information on carriers for such coverage (One example is http://www.haylor.com ), but does not require the contract holder to procure coverage from any specific vendor.

All lease and contract holders living in rental apartments and houses must provide proof of personal property coverage upon request by the University. All residents with pets are required to provide Housing with proof of liability insurance before their contracted move in date. Housing will accept either a copy of your insurance policy or a copy of your payment invoice as proof. Please be aware that this is a contractual requirement; therefore, failure to provide proof of insurance will be considered a violation of the Terms and Conditions of Occupancy.
