Filling Vacancies/Losing A Roommate
After Room Draw, vacancies may occur when students decide to study abroad, move off campus or into a club, take a leave of absence, or are suspended.
Housing Department Notification
If you or your roommate decide not to occupy the room selected, you must notify the Undergraduate Housing Office immediately. Do not rely on the official notification given by the Dean's Office, as there is often a time lapse between the time you are given the leave and the time the Housing Department is officially notified.
Filling the Vacancy
If you have a vacancy in your suite prior to July 1, a representative from Housing and Real Estate Services will attempt to contact a remaining roommate. This student will have one week to fill the vacancy with a student who doesn’t currently have a housing contract or a student who has drawn a single room. If a new roommate who maintains the group's weighted rating cannot be located, the Housing Office may move the remaining roommates to a room appropriate for that number of people. This is most likely to occur when there are students on the Wait List. If all wait listed students have been housed, a returning or readmitted student will be assigned to the vacancy. Vacancies that become available after July 1 will be processed at the discretion of the Department of Housing and Real Estate Services.
