Undergraduate Room Draw Guide

Rising Sophomores Application for the Draw

The Application
All students create an application to room draw by logging into the Undergraduate Room Draw Program contained on the Housing Department Web site. Each rising sophomore is required to apply as an individual or as part of a group. If applying as an individual you will need to login to the Undergraduate Room Draw Program using your Princeton netID, navigate to the application, and complete it as instructed. If applying as a group, only one  individual in the group, your group leader, will create an application for the entire group. The group leader will enter the Princeton netID of each individual in the group and complete the application as directed. Each group member will be required to accept membership to the group by logging into the Undergraduate Room Draw Program. Each application type and the procedures for submitting the application are contained below.

Application Types
Each rising sophomore must submit an application in one of three ways:

  • Apply as an Individual
You may draw into a residential college as an individual. The following conditions apply:
    • When applying as an individual you are essentially applying for a single room. There is however, no guarantee that a single room will be available at your room selection time.
    • Once an application has been submitted a summary page will appear providing relevant information about the application. If a summary page does not appear you have not submitted an application. An e-mail will be sent to you confirming a valid application.

  • Apply as a Group of Rising Sophomores
You may draw into your residential college as a group of Rising Sophomores.  The following conditions apply:
    • All members of the group are rising sophomores.
    • All members of the group reside in the same residential college.
    • Your group may contain 2 to 8 people with the exception of the Wilson College draw where the group may contain 2- 11 rising sophomores. Any group in Wilson College containing more than 8 members must be the same gender.
    •  Your group will be assigned the same draw time. This will allow your group to select the same suite or a group of rooms, near to one another.
    • One application will be submitted for the entire group. The individual creating the application for the group is considered the group leader.
    • Your group leader will need your Princeton netID to complete the application.
    • An email will be sent to each group member informing them they have been asked to be members of a group for room draw.
    • Each group member must accept membership to the group before the application is considered completed.  (Login to the Room Draw Website using your netID and accept membership to the group using the instructions contained there.)
    • If anyone in the group rejects membership or fails to accept group membership prior to the deadline the application is invalid.
    • Only completed applications are considered valid and will receive a draw time.
    • Once an application has been submitted a summary page will appear providing relevant information about the application. If a summary page does not appear you have not submitted an application.
    • Group application members are encouraged to check the summary page often to determine the status of each group member, i.e. what group members have accepted, rejected membership, or have not replied.

  • Apply as a Mixed Class Group
You may enter the draw in your residential college as part of a mixed class group provided your Residential College is a 4-year college. Before forming a mixed class group, keep in mind that there is a limit to the number of upperclass students living in a residential college. Other restrictions apply:
    • As a rising sophomore you must select a room or suite in which upperclassmen in your group will also be living.
    • You may not select a single room as part of the mixed group.
    • You may not select a room or suite containing rising sophomores only. (If during room selection there are no older members left to draw into a room, the younger members will be given a new random draw time within their class. The time will be displayed on the Undergraduate Room Draw Program Welcome Page.)
    • The mixed class group must be the same gender.
    • You will submit one application for the entire group. The individual creating the application for the group is considered the group leader.
    • An e-mail will be sent to each group member informing them they have been asked to be members of a group for room draw.
    • Each group member must accept membership to the group before the application is considered completed.  (Login to the Undergraduate Room Draw Program using your Princeton netID and accept membership to the group using the instructions contained there.)
    • Only completed applications are considered valid and will receive a draw time.
    • If anyone in the group rejects membership or fails to accept group membership prior to the deadline the application is invalid.
    • If the sole upperclassmen in a particular room or suite should cancel his/her contract before the first day of classes, the younger members remaining in that room or suite will be moved to a new room or suite.
    • Your application will be weighted.

Deadline for Application to Room Draw
As a rising sophomore you or your group leader are required to complete an online application by the date specified by the Housing Department.  No applications will be received past this date.

Failure to Meet Deadline
If you do not submit a valid application prior to the deadline you are required to fill out a wait list application. As a non-draw participant you will move to the bottom of the wait list, and will be last in line for room assignment.
