Creative Arts / Humanities Collective and Civic Engagement Community in the Residential Colleges
Dear Wilson Classes of 2014 and 2015:
I write to on behalf of Whitman and Mathey Colleges to invite you to participate in the creation of a new residential option at Princeton. In the 2013 – 2014 academic year, Mathey and Whitman will host two pilot programs dedicated to creating a residential space for students interested in living in a community centered around the Creative Arts and Humanities (Mathey) or Civic Engagement (Whitman). Students will live in adjacent rooms on the same floor in a residence hall affiliated with the relevant college. Each community will foster strong connections with faculty mentors and alumni in related fields, as well as with like-minded peers and graduate students. The Creative Arts and Humanities Community will develop special relationships with the Council for the Humanities and the Lewis Center for the Arts, and the Civic Engagement Community will work closely with the Pace Center. Both communities will pursue a wide range of exciting projects defined by the specific interests of group members and will have an opportunity to participate in significant off-campus cultural or civic activities, possibly including domestic and international travel.
These pilot projects will strengthen the bonds of community among students with similar passions, while encouraging mentorship across class years and campus-wide student leadership in arts citizenship and public service.
Interested? Intrigued? Wondering what it would be like to live in an intentional community and make new connections between your intellectual and co-curricular interests? Click on the “Express Interest” links below for one or both programs, and you will receive additional information by Thursday, February 7th. You should also plan to come to our info sessions:
Whitman Civic Engagement Community: Monday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Whitman Common Room
Mathey Arts and Humanities Collective: Tuesday, February 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Mathey Common Room
