Carolina Sa Carvalho

Carolina Sá Carvalho is a second year graduate student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Cultures. Her main field of research is Latin American literature and photography, with focus on Brazil. She was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, in Leme, a small neighbourhood squeezed between the beach and the hills. Besides Leme, she also appreciates film, photography and all forms of visual arts. She truly enjoys going to archives to do iconographic research and she has worked for some time as a researcher for documentary filmmakers. She received her M.A. in Communication and Culture from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where she wrote a thesis focused on the relationship between photography, suffering and politics. When she is not studying, Carolina loves traveling and riding her bike.
